Excellence shines a path for us so we can see ahead and know what together we might become the city on the hill. It's about who you are and what you can do with the circumstances you've got. At the end of the day, the person who thrives is the person who keeps going, who while testing and extending the limits of their own possibility, also experiences the satisfaction of overcoming adversity in the company of others, and who knows how to have at least a little fun in doing so.
This transformative vision needs to coexist in our private and public spaces – both the personal and the aligned. In this way, when we have a deep inner drive that is connected to our world and what we might bring to it, we feel self-directed and self-aware because we also feel connected and interdependent; we are more likely to feel the mastery, autonomy and purpose that will connect us to a preferred future in which we can all thrive.
So, the ultimate evidence of the efficacy of the personal journey of the transformation of the educator is how effectively we can prepare for a preferred future together by co-authoring with our community a transformative vision for an education for the character, competency, and wellness of a whole person that also characterises how we will implement it.
Vision is often born from within the secure confines of relationships that encourage us to look beyond today and seek a better way towards tomorrow. At the same time, it also frequently finds its origins in the time and space we give ourselves to look deep into and take responsibility for ourselves, our wellness and our time and resource management so that we have the space to think unencumbered by the weight of the world. From this point, we are more likely to situate a personal journey of exploration, encounter and discovery within a greater organising framework of values, standards, and competencies for future-fit citizens. Thus, if you let what is outside of you drive what is inside of you, you are far more likely to go the distance.
Let’s go!
